Position Overview
The District of North Vancouver is looking for a dynamic, highly motivated Database Administrator/Analyst to join the District’s Information Technology team to support our database environment and enterprise applications.
 
What we can offer you
We’re looking for a talented Database Administrator/Analyst to join our team. In this 3-year temporary full-time (TFT) position, you’ll work with a multi-disciplinary team to maintain and build solutions that both support and transform government services. Your work will be impactful and will help modernize how the District does business.
 
In this complex technical and analytical role, you will:
  • Take responsibility for the ongoing administration, performance tuning, configuration, security, and backup and recovery processes for the District’s SQL Server database environment.
  • Conduct regular system patching and upgrades; analyze proposed updates and determine their impact on existing systems and integrations prior to applying.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to the IT Department and perform tasks such as database monitoring, reporting, archiving, and optimization.
  • Analyse current software and configurations and propose updates or modifications based on best practice.
  • Perform ongoing evaluation to ensure data security, privacy and integrity.
  • Determine, enforce, and document database policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Assist with the design and construction of integrations and facilitate the movement of data between systems.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues as they arise.
  • Assist with the modernization of legacy data storage systems and tools.
  • Maintain documentation for data transformation processes, standards, and operational procedures.
 
What you’ll need to succeed: 
  • A degree or diploma in computer sciences or considerable related database management and support experience.
  • 5+ years of experiencing deploying, managing, and administrating MS SQL Server.  
  • An expert understanding of relational data structures, database platforms, and data modelling standards.
  • Experience creating and executing data recovery plans.
  • An in-depth knowledge of database structures and queries.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Windows operating systems and Windows Server platforms.
  • Be a self-starter with the ability to work independently, take ownership over processes, and have a strong desire to understand the root causes of problems.
  • Experience using SSIS, FME, or similar, for data transformation and migration.
  • Possess the ability to consider the “big picture” when implementing solutions, including provision of technical support and long-term sustainability.
  • An enthusiasm for tackling new and unfamiliar tasks and problems.
 
It’s great if you have: 
  • Basic experience working with APIs – ex querying and extracting data.
  • Experience with Azure data storage and migration.
  • Experience migrating and transitioning legacy systems to modern applications and technologies.
  • Experience working with PowerBI and PowerApps.
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity requirements for on premise and cloud-based applications.
  • Experience working with enterprise software including management and configuration.
  • Experience working with business users to define software requirements.
  • Experience with municipal enterprise systems and environments.
  • Microsoft Certified Database Administrator (MCDBA) certification.

Compensation The pay range for this unionized position is $44.78 - $52.91 per hour based on a 35-hour work week.
