Position Overview
Our Fleet and Solid Waste Department has an auxiliary job opportunity for an Operations Coordinator to cover maternity leave. In this role you will perform a variety of complex and technical administrative support work; assist managers in developing and controlling budgets; monitor and analyze costs; research and make recommendations for the improvement of program, financial and business and processes; liaise with a variety of internal contacts and provide direction to staff. The ability to exercise considerable independent judgement is an essential skill.
The successful applicant must possess sound knowledge of budgeting and cost control practices and procedures, along with considerable knowledge of computer applications, arithmetic, spelling, grammar, and the departmental functions, operations, procedures, processes, regulations and policies applicable to the work performed. 
The ideal candidate will also have the ability to:
  • Research information related to work and develop recommendations for modifications, improvements and new processes.
  • Prepare and maintain a variety of reports.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships and maintain excellent communication with a variety of internal contacts.
  • Effectively respond to work related questions and issues as they arise.
  • Assign and review work and provide direction and guidance to clerical and/or technical staff.
  • Perform tasks with limited supervision.

Qualifications:
Completion of Grade 12 supplemented by courses related to the work plus considerable related experience, or an equivalent combination of related training and technical experience. Due to the complex nature of the financial transactions and recommendations required by this position, preferred candidates will possess experience in Finance or Accounting. A CPA or related designation would be considered an asset.
Salary: The pay range for this unionized position is $37.92 to $44.78 per hour (2021 rates) with 12% in lieu of benefits, moving to 16% after working 1200 hours in 2 years continuous service. The successful candidate will be required to work 2-3 days per week with days to be agreed upon.
