Position Overview | Reporting to the Director, Parks, the Section Manager, Parks Capital Projects leads a team of technical and operational staff responsible for developing and implementing the asset management and capital construction program for District Parks, including construction, renovation, renewal, replacement and maintenance of parks infrastructure, buildings and capital assets. As the Section Manager, you will apply advanced project and construction management skills to ensure all annual and long-range capital projects are properly defined and prioritized based upon available funding, risk management and needs assessment, and in accordance with established policies, regulations and service level standards. You are also responsible for developing and managing staff and equipment resources, which includes professional and technical staff, certified trades personnel, equipment operators, labourers, and a wide range of consultants and contractors. This position works collaboratively to support Parks Department priorities in accordance with approved budgets and corporate objectives. The successful applicant will have:
Qualifications You have graduated from a recognized university with a degree in Parks Administration, Planning, Landscape Architecture, Engineering or a related discipline. You have a minimum of 7 years related experience, which includes progressively responsible supervisory and leadership experience; preferably within a municipal parks context. You are registered or eligible for registration with a related professional association such as, the British Columbia Society of Landscape Architects (BCSLA), Planning Institute of BC (PIBC), or Engineers & Geoscientists BC and have a valid BC driver’s license. Formal training in Project Management, Contract Management, Construction Management, Asset Management and/or other related discipline is required; certification is preferred.
